I’ll be off pressing flesh and shilling down in Phoenix this weekend at the Amazing Arizona Comic Con so I wanted to post this weeks playlist early.
There wasn’t much in the way of new releases this week. I checked out the new Iskald album Nedom og Nord based on a positive review. Some pretty solid, melodic black metal. A good listen if not anything ground breaking. A little Watain-ish at times. Though it isn’t new, it came out this week, Drudkh’s collection of out of print EPs and splits, Eastern Frontier In Flames was a pretty interesting listen. Probably only really for the Drudkh fan. It’s Drudkh doing what they do (or used to do) so well. Atmospheric, nature oriented black metal. I found their new split with Winterfylleth more fun. Also, I still can’t shake that new Waldgeflüster. It’s pretty amazing.
Besides that this week has mostly been devoted to Power Metal. While listening to some DragonForce I got the idea to do a short, 16 page comic based on the epic nature and triumphant themes presented in power metal. I have a pretty solid idea and even wrangled in my buddy and comic artist Patrick Hoover to do a story. It’s still early in the process but I hope to get to working on it by the end of summer when I wrap up all the other projects I have in the works. So this weeks playlist mostly consists of power metal to help get me in the spirit and to help me focus on what I love about the genre so much. So no descriptions this week, just know that each and every one of these bands is glorious in their metal, epic in their scope and empowering beyond belief.
