There was quite a lull in new releases this week, however there are a ton of new albums coming out soon that I’m highly anticipating and a couple new ones were just announced that peaked my interest. Mainly the new Winterfylleth, Obituary and Horrendous. This week I spent some time checking out “classic” or highly rated albums from bands I like but have just never got around to hearing. I’ve only been really into metal for the past six to seven years so I still have a lot of catching up to do and some albums just get by me. Anyway, only two new releases this week and one of them isn’t even metal.
Ulvegr – The Call of Glacial Emptiness
I wasn’t aware that this band was releasing a new album this year so when I saw it I immediately had to hear it. I’m a fan of their previous album and this one is even better. Fierce, no frills black metal.
The Gaslight Anthem – Get Hurt
You might not know this but I’m a big fan of Bruce Springsteen, Social Distortion, Lucero and some of these American rooted, styled bands. I think The Gaslight Anthem are an extension of that. They play, solid, well written, story driven songs that all seem to be about a certain, working class take on living in America. Catchy as hell and one of the few bands left that are playing a real version of rock and roll.
And the rest of this week’s playlist:
Slugdge – Gastronomicon
Hoth – Oathbreaker
Abigor – Leytmotif Luzifer
Alestorm – Sunset on the Golden Age
Falconer – Black Moon Rising
Allegaeon – Elements of the Infinite

Enslaved – Vertebrae
