There was sort of a lull in new releases this week, which is fine by me because the past couple weeks were hammering me with incredible new albums. It gave me some time to check out some recommendations and discover some newly releases stuff that wasn’t on my radar. Finding new bands in metal is like going down an endless rabbit whole. There is so much great stuff out there just waiting to be heard and shared. Metal is the gift that keeps on giving. Only two reviews this week so let’s get into it! As always, hit the titles to check out more from the bands.
Vanhelga – Langton
I just sort of checked this out on a whim, not being familiar with the band or any previous work. I found myself rather enjoying this album. It’s a weird mix or super fuzzed out guitars layered behind beautifully played acoustic guitars with the insane howling vocals from the lead singer. It may verge close to chaotic or unfocused but it always leaves you guessing as to what’s next, the vocals make you feel… deranged and the music is eclectic. It may be a black metal disaster, it may be brilliant, whatever it is, I’m enjoying it.
Ad Infinitum – Woven Within
This album is an atmospheric, black metal trip into a frozen void. Reverb laden screams, murky, fuzzed out guitars and crushing riffs. Took a shot in the dark on this and was pleasantly surprised. The best part is this album is available on Bandcamp as a name your own price buy. How can you go wrong?
Also new this week Valdrin’s Beyond the Forest and Pantheon I’s From the Abyss They Rise tore it up with their takes on black metal, Crystal Eyes’ Killer was a less than killer power metal release, but kind of fun, Bastard Mountain’s Farewell, Bastard Mountain captivated me with their dark and dreary folk music and Red Fang released another free EP this week featuring three acoustic takes of some of their better songs.
