Greetings Creeps!

Sorry for the missed post last week. I was off on a glorious adventure to Iceland with amazing lady. It was an epic adventure and one that needs repeating. Never fret though, the metal did not stop even 3,000 miles away. I made a special playlist chalk full of Icelandic metal bands just for the journey. I’ll post that list below for those curious listeners. Iceland has some great bands held up in it’s tiny frozen core.

Since I’ve been back there has been an ONSLAUGHT of tremendous new music for me to catch up on. This has been a dizzying week  in terms of quality and content as the metal machine seems determined to crack the earth in half under it’s awesome weight. I was not disappointed with a single release I obtained this week. There are so many quality, amazing albums coming out this year it’s nauseating. I can barely keep up.

Most of this week was spent listening to said new releases. Nux Vomica’s, Nux Vomica is a crushing album and worthy of the praise it’s receiving. I’ve heard it referred to as this years Agrimonia. Maybe not there yet but close. Skogen’s I Döden, Old Wainds’ Nordraum, Gravehill’s Death Curse and Nocturnal Breed’s Napalm Nights are all massive records. Katatonia’s Kocytean EP was a pleasant surprise this week even if it is just a collection of old rarities and b-sides. I got lost in a Bandcamp hole this week as well and purchased numerous new albums. Woman is the Earth’s Depths, Bleed the Pigs’ Mortis Fatrum EP Secret Creation’s  Holding My Carrot and Separatist’s – Closure were great finds and exceedingly worth more then the $2 I paid for each. Man I love Bandcamp. I’m finishing off the week with the new Enthroned album Sovereigns, but let’s not forget the new Triptykon album, Melana Chasmata, came out this week and it’s just killer. It’s a contender for album of the year already. On to the list!

Triptykon – Melana Chasmata
I don’t know what I expected from the new Triptykon. I new it would be impressive based on their last album but I don’t think I was ready for just how damn good it actually ended up being. I may be speaking sacrilege here but I think this is Tom Warrior’s best output to date.

Nocturnal Breed – Napalm Nights
Ramped up, blackened up, thrash-erific, speed metal. All those things equal awesome.

Woman is the Earth – Depths
This was a pleasant surprise this week. Woman is the Earth aren’t reinventing the atmospheric black metal wheel but they are sure giving it a good polishing. Similar in scope to early Wolves in the Throne Room or Agolloch, if your into that sort of thing.

Skogen – I Döden
Old Wainds – Nordraum
Gravehill – Death Curse
Sólstafir – Köld
Nux Vomica – Nux Vomica
Katatonia – Kocytean EP
Heathen – The Evolution of Chaos
Ered Wethrin – Tides of War
Saor – Roots
Infestum – E X | I S T
Sargeist – Feeding the Crawling Shadows
Gallowbraid – Ashen Eidolon
Heretoir – Substanz
Overkill – Taking Over
Off! – Wasted Years
Bleed the Pigs – Mortis Fatrum EP
Secret Creation – Holding My Carrot
Enthroned – Sovereigns
Separatist – Closure

And my Icelandic metal playlist:

Svartidauði – Flesh Cathedral
Sólstafir – Köld
Sólstafir – Svartir Sandar
Carpe Noctem – In Terra Profugus
Angist – Circle of Suffering
Azoic – Gateways

Vansköpun – Alsæla Gegnum Endurfæðingu
