Creephouse Jams 01/10/14

Greetings Creeps!

I’m still stumbling on to some incredible music that I overlooked in 2013.  This week was mostly spent playing catch up with that stuff.  I dove deep into some overlooked punk albums from 2013 then took a detour through some amazing country and folk records (which I will be posting about next week.)  There was still room for some awesome metal releases I missed as well.

A couple new 2014 releases came out this week too.  The new Alcest album Shelter which I was anticipating came out.  This is going to be a “water cooler” album for this year I think, similar to how Deafheaven’s Sunbather was for last year.  The door for this atmospherical “pretty” black metal seems to be wide open now.  Any remnants of black metal Alcest use to have are gone from the new album in favor of an ethereal, sound layering journey but the album is still pretty darn good.

Also this week saw the release of some pretty fun metal albums.  The new Cannabis Corpse/Ghoul split Splatterhash is good times and the new Suicidal Angel gets this years thrash off with some solid playing.

Cnoc An Tursa – The Giants of Auld

Some epic Scottish black metal.  First time through I was having some issues with the vocals.  This time through I rather enjoyed them.  The music is the star here though.  Just unrelentingly epic.

Immortal Bird – Akrasia

Some crusty, blackened death metal in the vein of Ludicra.  Awesome riffs and songs.  Nice little EP here.

Oathbreakers – Eros|Anteros

I was looking for some good 2013 punk releases and came across this.  Not punk by any stretch of the imagination.  While it was labeled as hardcore it’s more borderline crusty black doom metal.  Similar to Agrimonia with some equally impressive female vocals, just the songs have less grandeur than Agrimonia.

Annorkoth – The Last Days

Another album I missed out on in 2013.  I was looking to Germ for the next awesome Germ album.  Maybe I should have been looking here.  Atmospheric, ethereal black metal with haunting vocals.

Fen – Dustwalker

Netherbird – The Ferocious Tides of Fate

The Sword – Age of Winters

Agrimonia – Rites of Separation

The Sword – The Veil of Isis

When Bitter Spring Sleeps – Coven of the Wolves

Waldgeflüster – Femundsmarka – Eine Reise in Drei Kapiteln

Panopticon – Kentucky

Frank Turner – Tape Deck Heart

Billy Bragg – Tooth & Nail

Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult – Nocturnal March

Watain – The Wild Hunt

Argyle Goolsby – Under the Witness Stars EP

Twilight of the Gods – Fire on the Mountain

Propagandhi – Failed States

Red City Radio – Titles

Alcest – Shelter

Ellesmere – Bail City

The Flatliners – Dead Language

Cannabis Corpse/Ghoul – Splatterhash Split

Dutch Nuggets – Nervous Wreck

Adrenalized – Tales From the Last Generation

Suicidal Angels – Divide and Conquer
